British guitarist and singer Eric Clapton scored three Top 10 hits on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in the 1970s, most notably with the biggest hit of of his career, “I Shot The Sheriff,” which spent one week at number one in 1974. Clapton also scored two Top 10 hits in the 1990s, including the second-biggest hit of his career, “Tears In Heaven,” which spent four weeks at number 2 in 1992. In the middle, during the 1980s, Clapton reached the Top 10 just once, with “I Can’t Stand It.”

On this date in 1981, “I Can’t Stand It” reached a peak position of number 10, where it would spend two weeks. Today, Eric Clapton’s “I Can’t Stand It” is the Daily Eighties Flashback.
