Alan Parsons Project – Eye In The Sky

A recent report stated that Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” borrows the melodies from Alan Parson Project’s “Eye In The Sky”. Can you hear the similarities between the tunes?

I can hear it toward the end, but I wouldn’t say this is a copy or borrow of “Eye in the Sky.” I think, given the way Western music works and the many people writing songs, there needs to be some recognition of overlap many songs are going to have. This would seem to be a case of simply using a similar kind of chord line, perhaps even with conscious recognition of a Alan Parsons Project influence, perhaps not. Whatever the case, I don’t think this is problematic. But, then again, I think that of Men at Work’s “Down Under” borrowing from “Kookaburra,” and a court ruled otherwise.
