Boy Meets Girl

Seattle-based songwriting team Shannon Rubicam and George Merrill found major success as writers for two number 1 hits for Whitney Houston in the mid-1980s:  “How Will I Know” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me).”  They also recorded music as a duo, going by the name Boy Meets Girl, and they hit number 39 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in 1985 with “Oh Girl.”

Boy Meets Girl found their greatest success, though, with their single “Waiting For A Star To Fall,” which peaked at number 5 for the first of two weeks exactly 25 years ago.  Boy Meets Girl would also hit number 49 in 1989 with their follow-up single, “Bring Down The Moon.”  That, though, was the group’s last appearance on the Hot 100.
