DEF: Cynthia Fee “Thank You For Being A Friend”

In 1978, California-born musician Andrew Gold hit the Top 40 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart for the second time in his career when his song “Thank You For Being A Friend” peaked at number 25. Seven years later, a version of the song performed by Cynthia Fee was used as the theme song for the new NBC sitcom The Golden Girls, which would run for seven seasons and go on to develop a considerable fan following that has kept the show going in syndication on multiple television networks.
Exactly 30 years ago today, The Golden Girls premiered on television. In honor of that anniversary, the theme song — “Thank You For Being A Friend” — is today’s Daily Eighties Flashback.
Andrew Gold had a top 10 hit with “Lonely Boy” a year before he hit the top 40 for a second time with “Thank You For Being A Friend.”
You’re right. Thanks for pointing out the error in my post. It’s been more than five and half years since I wrote it, so I don’t remember my thought process while writing the post, though I have faint memory of writing something on Tunesmate that mentions “Lonely Boy.” So, when I read your comment, my reaction was along the lines of “Yes, he did,” and I reread my post to see if maybe my wording was vague or something. It’s not, though; it’s an error, and I can only think I had some kind of distraction or brain lapse while writing it. I’ll edit the post to correct the error. Thanks, again!
