DEF: Survivor “It’s The Singer, Not The Song”

Word has been circulating over the past few days that former Survivor lead singer Jimi Jamison passed away on Sunday at the age of 63. Jamison joined Survivor in 1984 after previous lead singer Dave Bickler left the band. By that time Survivor had already had the biggest hit of its career — 1982’s “Eye Of The Tiger” from the film Rocky III, which spent six weeks at number one. However, Survivor’s first album with Jamison at lead singer, Vital Signs, scored the band its greatest collection of hits. Three songs from the album hit the Top 20 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, as “I Can’t Hold Back” peaked at number 13, “High On You” hit number 8, and “The Search Is Over” rose to number 4.

In memory of Jimi Jamison, today’s Daily Eighties Flashback is an unreleased track from Vital Signs with a fitting title to pay him honor:  “It’s The Singer, Not The Song.”
