The Tams
After reaching number 60 in 1962 with their first charting single, “Untie Me,” Atlanta-based group the Tams hit Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart five times in 1964, starting with “What Kind Of Fool (Do You Think I Am),” which debuted on the chart in mid-December 1963 and peaked at number 9 exactly 50 years ago. “What Kind Of Fool (Do You Think I Am)” was the only one of the songs to hit the Top 40, and it stands as the group’s only Top 40 hit. They did, though, hit the Hot 100 chart one more time, as “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy” hit number 61 in 1968.
