Swing Out Sister

Exactly 25 years ago, British pop group Swing Out Sister was in the midst of a two-week stay at a peak position of number 6 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart with their first and only top 10 hit in the U.S., “Breakout.”  The band would also hit the Top 40 in 1988 with “Twilight World,” which accompanied “Breakout” on their It’s Better To Travel release.  Though Swing Out Sister would come close to hitting the Top 40 again a few years later, when their version of “Am I The Same Girl?” peaked at number 45 in 1992, “Breakout” and “Twilight World” remain the group’s only two Top 40 U.S. hits.  They have, though, performed better in their native U.K., as the three songs mentioned were joined by three more for a total of six Top 40 hits for the band between 1986 and 1994.
