Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue — November 2023

The release of a new song from The Beatles this past Thursday provides the prompt for this month’s edition of Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue. The theme can be described as simple and different. It also involves groups whose names contain it and groups whose names do not.

For “Something Old,” we have Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five’s 1949 recording “Beans and Cornbread.” “Something New” is the aforementioned new song by The Beatles, “Now and Then.” For “Something Borrowed,” it’s Joan Jett and The Blackhearts‘ version of Tommy James and The Shondells‘ “Crimson and Clover.” Finally, “Something Blue” is Van Halen‘s “Black and Blue.”
