Pac-Man Fever

Tomorrow (May 22) is the 30th anniversary of the release of what may be, with apologies to Pong, Super Mario Bros., World of Warcraft, and some others, the most iconic video game ever–Pac-Man.  A Web site has been established to commemorate the anniversary.  Also, Google is offering Web goers the chance to play a version of Pac-Man on the search engine’s logo for a couple of days.

Pac-Man led to a whole host of other products based on the arcade game, including a Saturday morning cartoon.  In terms of music, while numerous artists have made Pac-Man references over the years, most famous, of course, is Buckner and Garcia’s song “Pac-Man Fever,” which reached number 9 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in 1982.  The above clip features the duo performing the hit on American Bandstand.

I played Pacman Fever until the needle broke. Wasn’t there a Donkey Kong song?
