Marky Mark’s Big Day
Exactly three months ago yesterday, actor Mark Wahlberg turned 40. Before launching his successful acting career, Wahlberg entered the American consciousness as a rapper, scoring a number 1 hit exactly 20 years ago yesterday as Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch with “Good Vibrations.”
He would follow this up a few months later with a top 10 hit in “Wildside,” which is based on a sample of Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side.” But that would be the end of the line for Wahlberg’s pop music success. While Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch released a second album and few more singles, they would never again hit the to 40.
