Lyrics Create Pop Phrases

Some songsare trend setters because their lyrics create new phrases that become pop culture lingo. As time goes by some of these phrases stick and others seem to fall to the wayside. One tune that recently seemed to strike a chord was the Blackeyed Pea’s “Boom Boom Pow” which featured a memorable phrase. In the song Fergie belts-out the lyric “You’re so 2000 and late”. The other day as I was standing line at the grocery store, I heard some teen deliver the phrase to another teen as a jab.

Can you think of any other pop phrases from the 50s until now that have lasted or fizzled due to a song lyric?
