Los Angeles-based band Buffalo Springfield is considered a foundational folk-rock/country-rock band, and it’s notable for bringing together the likes of Stephen Stills, Neil Young, and Jim Messina. In their time together from 1966 to 1968, the band released three albums and made five appearances on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. Only one of those songs hit the Top 40, though it’s an iconic one. Exactly 50 years ago, Buffalo Springfield’s first charting single, “For What It’s Worth,” was in its second week at a peak position of number 7.
