The Beatles “Across the Universe” was written by John Lennon after an argument with Cynthia Lennon and the phrase “pools of sorrow, waves of joy” came to him in a dream. John wanted the song to be a single but it lost out to “Lady Madonna”. He later played guitar on David Bowe’s version of the tune on the 1975 album Young Americans.
