California-born musician “Weird Al” Yankovic became nationally known in 1984 for his Top 20 hit “Eat It,” which parodied Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.” “Eat It” was actually the first of three singles Yankovic placed on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart that year. On this date in 1984, the follow-up single, “King of Suede,” which parodied The Police’s “King of Pain,” climbed to a peak position of number 62. Today, “King of Suede” by “Weird Al” Yankovic is the Daily Eighties Flashback.
