DEF: Steely Dan “Gaucho”
New York City-born musician Walter Becker passed away this past weekend at the age of 67. Becker is best known as cofounder, along with Donald Fagen, of the band Steely Dan, who released seven albums between 1972 and 1980, spawning ten Top 40 hits on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. After the release of their album Gaucho in 1980, the band went on hiatus until the mid-1990s, making Gaucho their only release during the 1980s. The album produced the band’s last two Top 40 hits, though today’s Daily Eighties Flashback, in memory of Becker, is the album’s unreleased title track.
