DEF: Robin Williams “I Yam What I Yam”

Today marks one week since comedy legend Robin Williams passed away. Among Williams’ parts as he rose to fame in the late 1970s and early 1980s, he starred as Popeye in the 1980 live-action film about the cartoon character. In the film, Williams’ Popeye sings the song “I Yam What I Yam,” which was written for the film by singer/songwriter Harry Nilsson. While the song didn’t hit Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, “I Yam What I Yam” was released a single and appeared on Billboard‘s Bubbling Under chart for a few weeks in late 1980 and early 1981.

In memory of Robin Williams, “I Yam What I Yam” is today’s Daily Eighties Flashback.
