DEF: Heart “What About Love?”

Between 1976 and 1983, Seattle-based band Heart appeared on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart 17 times, scoring two Top 10 hits from those appearances: “Magic Man,” which peaked at number 9 in 1976, and “Tell It Like It Is,” which hit number 8 in 1981. With the 1985 release of their self-titled album as they switched record labels to Capitol Records, the band would begin experiencing even higher levels of popular music success. Between 1985 and 1990, Heart more than tripled their previous number of Top 10 singles, as they reached the Top 10 seven times.

That run started with four straight Top 10 singles off that 1985 album, and on this date in 1985, the first of those singles — “What About Love?” — peaked at number 10, where it would spend one week. “What About Love?” is today’s Daily Eighties Flashback.
