DEF: Duran Duran “The Reflex”

Exactly 30 years ago, British band Duran Duran scored their first number one single as “The Reflex” climbed into the top spot on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart.  The song would spend two weeks at number 1, and a little more than a year later, the band would return to the top with “A View To A Kill,” which also spent two weeks at number 1.

“The Reflex” was the sixth straight Duran Duran song to hit the Top 20, a streak that began with their first charting single, “Hungry Like The Wolf,” which peaked at number 3 in 1983.  The band would also hit the Top 20 with their next four singles to run their streak to 10 before “Skin Trade” peaked at number 39 in 1987.  They would add three more singles — “I Don’t Want Your Love” in 1988 and “Ordinary World” and “Come Undone” in 1993 — for a total of 13 Top 20 hits in their career.

That first number one single, “The Reflex,” is today’s Daily Eighties Flashback.
