DEF: Billy Joel “We Didn’t Start The Fire”

New York City-born musician Billy Joel has released some of the most memorable songs in pop music history, beginning with his very first hit, “Piano Man,” in 1974. While the 1970s were fairly good to Joel, he gained much of his greatest success in the 1980s, when he charted on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart with 22 different singles, 20 of which reached the Top 40. Among those 1980s singles, Joel scored all three number one hits of his career.

Joel’s final hit of the 1980s is among his most memorable songs, and it was also his final number one. Exactly 25 years ago, that song — “We Didn’t Start The Fire” — climbed into the top spot, where it would spend two weeks. To mark that anniversary, “We Didn’t Start The Fire” is today’s Daily Eighties Flashback.
