Birthday of the Week: Mark Knopfler

This week’s choice for Birthday of the Week was a tough one, with a number of well-known artists reaching milestones over the next seven days, including Eric Carmen, Joe Jackson, Joe Jonas, and Donnie Wahlberg. Ultimately, I gave the nod to singer and guitarist Mark Knopfler, who is best known for fronting Dire Straits. Knopfler turns 70 tomorrow (August 12).

To commemorate Mark Knopfler’s 70th birthday, let us know your favorite song or piece of music from either his solo career or Dire Straits. Personally, while I could easily find a reason to choose any of Dire Straits four Top 20 hits (“Sultans of Swing,” “Money for Nothing,” “So Far Away,” and “Walk of Life”), I would choose “Storybook Love,” which features Knopfler with Willy DeVille and was part of Knopfler’s work composing the soundtrack for the film The Princess Bride.
