Bennie And The Jets
Elton John has gone to number 1 nine times on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. The first time was with “Crocodile Rock” in 1973, and that began a run of six number 1 hits over less than four years. The second of those number 1 hits, “Bennie and the Jets,” topped the chart for one week exactly 40 years ago. Of those six number 1 hits, the one week at the top for “Bennie and the Jets” was John’s shortest stay at the top. His duet with George Michael, remaking “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” also spent one week at number 1 in February 1992.
