25 Years Ago in the Nineties: Whitney Houston “I Will Always Love You”
In 1992, Whitney Houston took on her first film role as she costarred with Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard. In addition to the commercial success the film enjoyed, the film’s soundtrack became the best-selling soundtrack in pop music history. Much of the soundtrack consisted of songs sung by Houston, including the album’s first single, a remake of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You.” Exactly 25 years ago, in just its third week on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, Houston’s version of the song rose to number one, where it would stay for fourteen weeks, making it not just Houston’s biggest hit, but one of the biggest hits in chart history.
