Well, not everybody, but surely many an R.E.M. fan hurts after news broke yesterday that U.S. band R.E.M. is breaking up. Perhaps many feel like they’re losing their religion. Or that it’s the end of the … Okay, you get the drift. Rather than me continuing to make corny R.E.M. song-title-based sentences, let’s honor the career of R.E.M. with some sentunes.
Here’s an easy one to start us off: Fall on me, get up, stand, drive, bang and blame.
And here’s an opening mini-sentune as well: Losing my religion, I’ll take the rain at my most beautiful.
Also, here’s a link to an R.E.M. discography for some song titles to help us out.
You may have heard, especially if you’ve been to Google, that yesterday (September 5) would have been Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday. The queenofficial channel on YouTube has created a 65th birthday video for the Queen frontman, which can be seen above.
In honor of Mercury, Tunesmate is looking for Queen sentunes. Remember that for a sentune you put five song titles from the same artist together to form a grammatically correct sentence. (For a mini-sentune you do the same thing but use three song titles.) To help out, here is a list of some Queen songs.
Here’s one to get us started: Cool cat dancer, we will rock you headlong under pressure.
Known for combining religion, spirituality, and politics, Bob Marley passed away exactly 30 years ago today. In his honor, Tunesmate is looking for Bob Marley sentunes. To start us off, here are a sentune and a mini-sentune:
Sentune: Jamming one love, I shot the sheriff burnin’ and lootin’ three little birds.
Mini-sentune: Waiting in vain, slogans stir it up.
Singer, actor, Super Bowl halftime offender, world pop music sensation, former ‘N Syncer, mouseketeer, voice for the heir to a throne, celebrity golfer, Britney Spears’ significant other … you name it, he’s probably done it … including turning 30, which, believe it or not, Justin Timberlake does today. To celebrate Justin’s milestone, Tunesmate is looking for ‘N Sync/Justin Timberlake sentunes. Here’s one to get us started: Señorita pop girlfriend, cry me a river until the end of time.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been on the music scene for over twenty years so let’s try a sentune in celebration of their forthcoming album. Once again, the object of the game is to take five song titles of the same artist and compose them into a sentence or what we like to a call a sen-tune. If five is too much, then try Sentune Jr. and just do three songs.
Can you take five Red Hot Chili Pepper songs and create a sentence?
SENTUNE: By the way, I found out Dani California can’t stop under the bridge.
As you’ve likely already seen (or you already know) by now, today marks the 30th anniversary of the day that John Lennon was murdered. Lennon’s death maintains significant cultural resonance thirty years after it happened, as the many stories coming out today demonstrate. In tribute to John Lennon, Tunesmate is coming up with Sentunes based on songs from Lennon and/or the Beatles. I’ll start: “Hey Jude, imagine a hard day’s night back in the U.S.S.R. yesterday.”

Peter Gabriel, the successful solo artist and former lead singer of Genesis, turned 60 last week. Tunesmate would like to honor Mr. Gabriel with a game of Sentune. Take five Peter Gabriel song/album titles and make them into a sentence.
Sentune:
So I don’t remember, the lamb lays down on Broadway, Mercy Street, Solsbury Hill?

John Mellencamp dominated the 1980s and 1990s as an outstanding American song writer / performer. Today, try your hand at completing a mini or regular Sentune. Once again, the object of a Sentune is take song titles of an artist and create a sentence with them. Three song titles equal a mini-Sentune and five song titles equals a full-Sentune.
Mini-Sentune:
Jack and Diane get a leg up under the boardwalk
Pink houses crumblin down under the boardwalk
Full-Sentune:
Again tonight, Jack and Diane dance naked under the boardwalk when Jesus left Birmingham
Songs to help:

Happy Belated birthday to Ozzy Osbourne who turned 61 the other day! I don’t think Ozzy believes that he has made it this long with his music or his life. Thanks to Sharon Osbourne for keeping him alive. As tribute to Ozzy, tunesmate salutes the classic rocker with a sentune; here is list of Ozzy songs for a hint.. Try taking five song titles of the artist and arrange them in a sentence.
Ozzy Sentune:
No more tears Mr. Crowley, mama I’m coming home back on earth, see you on the other side.

For this sentune, rather than finding 5 songs by the same artist, try to string together 5 Christmas song titles to make a sentence. Try carrolling to this one:
Last Christmas, home for the holidays, I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus rockin’ around the Christmas tree up on the housetop.
