What do you get when you cross the original Batman Theme, Wipeout by the Safaris with Taxman from the Beatles? Here is an excellent mashup which I call affectionately “Taxman and Robin”.

As you’ve likely already seen (or you already know) by now, today marks the 30th anniversary of the day that John Lennon was murdered.  Lennon’s death maintains significant cultural resonance thirty years after it happened, as the many stories coming out today demonstrate.  In tribute to John Lennon, Tunesmate is coming up with Sentunes based on songs from Lennon and/or the Beatles.  I’ll start:  “Hey Jude, imagine a hard day’s night back in the U.S.S.R. yesterday.”

The hold out is over! After years of negotiation, one of the last classic bands to be added to iTunes are the Beatles. Last week, Apple and Apple Records struck a deal to finally post John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Star and George Harrison’s music digitally. Enjoy!

As many media outlets have reported and even Google has celebrated with a special doodle, today would have been John Lennon’s 70th birthday.  Today also marks another Beatle anniversary–one associated much more fully with Paul McCartney.  45 years ago today, “Yesterday” hit number 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart for the first week of a four-week run at the top. 

Recently, Rolling Stone ranked “Yesterday” number 4 on their list of the top 10 Beatles songs of all time.  Where would the song originally written as “Scrambled Eggs” show up on your best-of-the-Beatles list?

Ozzy Osbourne has recorded a cover version of John Lennon’s “How?” to benefit Amnesty International. You can get the track on iTunes. Click on the image above to start the video. I am a big fan of Ozzy, but it looks like he’s having a wee trouble walking in the video.

Rolling Stone magazine is releasing a book today that counts down the top 100 Beatles songs of all-time. The book was complied solely by the writers of Rolling Stone, so your list may vary.
