Rock Me Amadeus

The 1984 film Amadeus would go on to win eight Academy Awards, including best picture.  It also would inspire Austrian musician Falco to write the song “Rock Me Amadeus,” which would become an international megahit.  Exactly 25 years ago today, it hit number 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, where it would stay for three weeks.  Though Falco was not technically a one-hit wonder, as his followup song, “Vienna Calling,” went to number 18, he is largely known and remembered just for his chart-topper.  Unfortunately, Falco died in 1998 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  His song remains, though, a quintessential part of 1980s popular culture nostalgia.
