Richard Marx and Toto

On the list of things I’d like to see is a performance (or even an album) in which Richard Marx sings a set of songs from the band Toto, preferably with Toto band members accompanying him.  It seems like Marx’s voice would be perfect for the likes of “Africa,” “Rosanna,” “I’ll Be Over You,” and more.

There is a history here.  Members of Toto have appeared on some of Marx’s recordings, including his Rush Street and Paid Vacation albums, and Marx dedicated the song “One Man” from Paid Vacation to Toto drummer Jeff Porcaro, who died at the age of 38 in August 1992.  Additionally, Marx’s wife, Cynthia Rhodes, who costarred in the music video for Marx’s first hit single, “Don’t Mean Nothing,” also starred in the video for Toto’s second-biggest hit, “Rosanna.”

Richard is currently touring and I would love to see him make an attempt at a Toto song. My song that I think would be a smash hit would be “Hold The Line” – http://youtu.be/htgr3pvBr-I
