Popular Songs That Didn’t Chart Well

The other day I was traveling down the highway cranking “Right Now” by Van Halen and I realized when it was released it only went to #55 on the charts. Then I started realizing that many of the songs that get high rotation actually didn’t chart well on the Billboard Hot 100 when they were originally released. Is it because these tunes took awhile to grow on us?
