Me and Bobby McGee

Janis Joplin is remembered as a major figure of late 1960s/early 1970s rock ‘n’ roll music, and she will be the subject of a film featuring Amy Adams titled Janis Joplin:  Get It While You Can, which is currently in production with an expected release date of 2012.  Joplin only went to number 1 once on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, and it was posthumously.  Exactly 40 years ago today, almost six months after she passed away in October 1970, “Me and Bobby McGee” rose to the top for a two-week run.

  1. A true classic. Me and Bobby McGee is one of Joplin’s best songs (written by Kris Kristofferson). I like “Try” by Joplin even better but it’s amazing to think Me and Bobby McGee transformed Janis Joplin into a one-hit wonder.
