It Happened 50 Years Ago: Young-Holt Unlimited “Soulful Strut”

Among Chicago-based band Young-Holt Unlimited’s three appearances on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, the band reached the Top 10 once. That one Top 10 hit was “Soulful Strut,” which was the instrumental track used for Barbara Acklin’s song “Am I the Same Girl.” Acklin’s song only made it to number 79 in March of 1969, but several weeks earlier, and exactly 50 years ago today, “Soulful Strut” climbed to a peak position of number 3.
