It Happened 50 Years Ago: The Righteous Brothers “Unchained Melody”

Having peaked at number 4 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, “Unchained Melody” is The Righteous Brothers‘ fourth biggest hit, behind their two number one hits — “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin'” and “(You’re My) Soul And Inspiration” — and their number 3 hit “Rock And Roll Heaven.” Yet, particularly after two versions of the song hit the Top 20 in 1990 following its use in the film Ghost, “Unchained Melody” may be the duo’s most enduring hit. Exactly 50 years ago, “Unchained Melody” climbed into its number 4 peak position, where it would spend two weeks.
