DEF: The Weather Girls “It’s Raining Men”

Here’s a song for the list of tunes you probably thought performed better on the chart than they actually did.

In 1982, San Francisco-based duo The Weather Girls released the single “It’s Raining Men” — a song that reported had been offered to such popular music superstars as Donna Summer, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, and Chaka Khan. In the time since it’s release, “It’s Raining Men” has been remade by a number of other artists, and it has been featured prominently in a multitude of popular culture texts. Yet, The Weather Girls’ only single to appear on the Hot 100 didn’t even make the Top 40 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart.

On this date in 1983, “It’s Raining Men” by The Weather Girls reached a peak position of number 46, where it would spend three weeks. Today, it’s the Daily Eighties Flashback.
