DEF: Don McLean “Since I Don’t Have You”

Don McLean made news recently when he sold the original manuscript of the lyrics of his most famous song “American Pie.” That song was not only his biggest hit, spending four weeks at number 1 in 1972; it was his first appearance on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, and it marked the first of six Top 40 hits McLean has enjoyed.

Three of those hits came in the 1980s, and on this date in 1981, McLean’s fifth Top 40 hit, a remake of the Skyliners’ “Since I Don’t Have You,” reached a peak position of number 23, where it would spend two weeks.

“Since I Don’t Have You” by Don McLean is today’s Daily Eighties Flashback.
