Dan Fogelberg Memorial

While I was in Peoria, Illinois, this past week for a conference, I had a chance to stop at the Dan Fogelberg Memorial, which rests in Riverfront Park, right along the shore of the Illinois River.  The Memorial, which was dedicated in 2010, celebrates the memory of Peoria native Dan Fogelberg, who passed away after a battle with prostate cancer at the age of 56 in December 2007.

Fogelberg hit the top 40 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart with each of his first 11 singles between 1975 and 1984.  His biggest hit was “Longer,” which peaked at number 2 in 1980, though you may also recognize him from his top ten hit “Same Old Lang Syne,” which is a staple of light rock radio.

For more information on Fogelberg and the Dan Fogelberg Memorial, check out the Fogelberg Foundation of Peoria website.  Meanwhile, if you’re ever in Peoria, it’s worth taking a trip to this tranquil, reflective space along the riverside.
