For his 1994 album Songs, Luther Vandross teamed up with Mariah Carey to remake Lionel Richie and Diana Ross’s “Endless Love.” Though Richie and Ross took the song to number one for nine weeks in 1981, another long-running number one hit, “I’ll Make Love to You” by Boyz II Men, kept Vandross and Carey from hitting the top of the chart. Exactly 25 years ago, Vandross and Carey’s version of “Endless Love” rose to a peak position of number 2.
