Active rock is what “Heavy Metal” is now called by radio producers, but how do you classify the band Slayer? The 1980s band is still together making music, above is the classic “South of Heaven”.

Jimmy Fallon does a great job capturing the essence of Justin Bieber.

You can check out Pete Yorn’s new self-titled album by listening to it on EW. I am just happy there’s a new album minus the “Auto Tune“. What do you think of Pete’s latest effort? I like it.

Is this the next Father / Daughter dance for wedding receptions? Will a Mother / Daugher dance become the new standard?

Hootie and the Blowfish was one of the top selling artists of the 1990s. Darius Rucker aka “Hootie” has emerged as a successful country artist. His sophomore duet features the tune “Come Back Song” which is soaring up the country charts. What other top selling artists do you think would make it singing Dixie?

Last week, Tunesmate remembered MTV’s Friday Night Video Fights from the mid-1980s.  This week, we’re starting a similar kind of song contest, tentatively called “The Title Title.”  (Suggestions for a better name are encouraged.)  In this game, two different songs with the exact same title square off to see which artist did the song title more justice.  That artist then wins the title–i.e., the “The Title Title.”

Sparring in our first contest are “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley and “Crazy” by Aerosmith.  Who gets your vote for a better song named “Crazy”?

And, don’t worry, we haven’t forgotton the likes of Patsy Cline and Icehouse.  Perhaps the winner of this contest can square off against each of those (or the winner of a match between those two) someday …

A now-classic song offering reflections on pop music in the MTV age, Dire Straits’ “Money For Nothing” would, as the video itself foreshadows in parodying fashion, make it to heavy rotation on radio and on MTV.  Indeed, in what may be a testament to postmodernism, it ended up the year as MTV’s number 1 video on the network’s top 100 videos of 1985 countdown.  The song, which featured Sting’s memorable “I Want My MTV” backing vocal, also became Dire Straits’ only number 1 hit on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, reaching the top for a three-week reign 25 years ago today.

Watch Rock N’ Roll TV with your host Share Ross for your dose of current rock news. MTV News with Kurt Loder was where you used to get the scoop, but Reality TV domination has led to the creation of this online music news outlet.

Suzanne Cleary and Peter Harding are “letting their hands do the talking” in a catchy viral video. Last week this one of one of the most watched videos on YouTube, could this be a new competitive sport? How about a new TV show called Hand Dancing with the Stars on ABC?
