Countless groups from Ozzy to Jay-Z promote their retirement tour and then return a few years later after they realize they can’t live without touring.

Samuel F. Morse was born this day on 1781. When was the last time you heard Morse Code? When I was in Boy Scouts we had to memorize the dot/dash based code and to this day I can recite it clearly. The code you are most familiar with is S.O.S. (Save Our Ship) and goes like this … / — / …
Do you think heavy metal bands like God Smack, Metallica, Distrubed, etc… just recite Morse Code into guitar riffs? Think about it.

Elvis Presley had his first hit “Heartbreak Hotel” back in 1956 today. Is “The King” still alive in a trailer park in Missouri? When was the first time you heard this tune?
At a recent performance, an audience member asked last year’s American Idol winner Kris Allen to play his song “Live Like You Were Dying” , the problem is his song is actually “Live Like We’re Dying”. Kris ended up playing the Tim McGraw hit “Live Like You Were Dying” and then played his tune in a later set. Through out modern music history, there have been many song titles that are later repeated, but this situation is unique because the hits are released so close to each other.
Songs With Similar Titles
Live Like You Were Dying – Tim McGraw (2004)
Live Like We’re Dying – Kris Alllen (2009)
Can you think of any other hit songs with similar titles released so close to each other?

Why do one-hit wonders and some songs just seem to linger? Comedian Tim Hawkins delivers a hilarious sketch and hits a bullseye with his interpretation.

In tribute to the great audio mashup artists of today, Tunemate salutes DJ Earworm. You may recall at the beginning of the year we featured the United State of Pop 2009: Blame It on the Pop compilation which is one of DJ Earworm’s masterpieces. He literally wrote the book on how to create Audio Mashups called Audio Mashup Construction Kit: ExtremeTech. DJ Earworm is one of the pioneers creating an entire new genre of music right before our eyes. Tunesmate will continue to post this new music avenue not only because I like it but because it opens a whole new window of artists to a new generation.
