Your parents always told you that if you listen to “that music” it’s going to wrap your mind. In a sense it’s true because there are just some songs that will forever leave an indelible mark on your vocabulary. Take the song “My Prerogative” by Bobby Brown. Before this song I never used the word “Prerogative” in a sentence and afterwards I had to stop myself from using it on a daily basis for years.
Are there any other tunes you would add to this list of vocabulary changers?
Eat Sleep and Breathe Music serves up there song of the day for your listening pleasure. If you are stuck listening to the same music and you’re looking for a suggestion think about bookmarking ESBM.

It was sad to hear that Gregory Scott Slay, the original drummer from the band Remy Zero passed away on January 1st. Slay battled cystic fibrosis his entire life and passed away due to complications with the disease.
Remy Zero is often playing on my ipod. I can never get tired of listening to them. To me their music is very emotional. Several of Remy Zero’s songs have been featured in movies including Crazy/Beautiful and The Garden State. The song “Save Me” was the theme song for the WB show Smallville.
After the band broke up in 2003 several members joined new bands. Cedric Lemoyne is now part of O+S which is another constant play on my ipod. You can follow them on twitter
Remy Zero is definitely one of my favorite bands and I’m sorry the industry lost a talented drummer at the age of 40.

Johnny Cash is forever classic as the man in black. Tunesmate salutes this country legend with a Sentune. Try taking five song titles of the artist and arrange them in a sentence. Or you can take three song titles as a mini-sentune. Here’s a list of songs.

Oh lonesome me a boy named sue, I walk the line hurt in the garden.

Local Radio Entrepreneur Daniel Anstandig is using the Internet to power the format of San Francisco station KITS, 105.3. Their moto is “You decide what plays.” In the late 1990s, Dan as an early teenager started his own Internet Radio station called Daer.com. The station was part user generated music and pre-recorded local programming. Kudos to Dan and moving this concept to terrestrial radio.
Back in early 2000, I had the opportunity to work at ClevelandHits.com as an IJ (Internet Jock) where the listeners had the choice to vote every hour on the music they wanted to hear. The concept was way ahead of it’s time not only from the user generated part, but the fact that 80% of the world was on dial-up. IJs were presented to the audience as a live video stream, chat enabled and ready to take requests. Depending on who was listening, you could have a full hour of rock or full hour our rap.
I look forward to getting a listener driven station in Northeastern Ohio so I can be nostalgic.

Thomas Mulready from Cool Cleveland reposted his interview on the evils of Arbitron as “The Wave” becomes “Boom 107.3″.
Cool Cleveland stated, “Lonnie Gronek talks about the evils of Arbitron and their new PPM (Portable People Meter), which spelled doom for the smooth jazz format, although “The Wave” is still available at WNWV.com and on HD radio at 107.3 HD2. Meanwhile, Boom! 107.3 is now on the radio at 107.3 FM, online at 1073Boom.com.”

A few weeks ago I was at a party and someone asked me if I knew the Cupid Shuffle. The song is from 2007, but I remembered since it’s similar to the Electric Slide. The next time you’re at a party and this song comes on watch this clip so you can amaze your friends.

Congratulations to Eminem being named Billboard Magazine’s number one artist of 2000s. Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem, started and ended the decade with a strong series of hits. Dr. Dre groomed this rapping Caucasian from Detroit to pave his own style of music. Eminem is a smart lyrical comedian that always finds a way to poke fun of himself and pop culture behind catchy tunes.
Here are some Eminem’s memorable hits:
- Real Slim Shady
- Stan
- Without Me
- Just Lose It
- The Way I Am
- Lose Yourself
What’s your favorite Eminem song?
I was baffled with Entertainment Weekly’s top 10 singles of 2009. I agree with Jay-Z at the top, however I not sure the following songs had that deep of an impact. Is EW saying these belong on the definitive list of all-time? These tunes certainly don’t take a snapshot of 2009.
1. Jay-Z and Alicia Keys ”Empire State of Mind”
2. Lady Gaga ”Paparazzi”
3. Phoenix ”Lisztomania”
4. Keri Hilson feat. Kanye West & Ne-Yo ”Knock You Down”
5. Grizzly Bear ”Two Weeks”
6. Gossip ”Heavy Cross”
7. Green Day ”21 Guns”
8. Noisettes “Never Forget You”
9. Miley Cyrus “Party in the U.S.A.”
10. Dirty Projectors “Stillness is the Move”
